Description:

Every pocket in Tall Tales begins with a two-page reproducible retelling of a tale. There is a teacher resource page that offers suggestions for sharing the tale. Comprehension, art, and writing activities follow, helping the story come to life for students. A final pocket challenges students to write their own original tall tale, utilizing the story elements they have observed in the tall tales presented. Two pages of evaluation forms help both teacher and student assess what was learned.

The eight stories in Tall Tales are:
Pecos Bill Slue-Foot Sue
Paul Bunyan Babe the Blue Ox
John Henry Davy Crockett
Alfred Bullfrog Stormalong Mose the Firefighter

5Tall Tales Literature PocketsJun 16, 2010
By Rebecca Perkins "Becky Perkins"
I have been doing a tall tales unit in my class for several years. I liked this book though. Especially the "why is it a tall tale" pages for each story. The stories were interesting to all levels of readers in my class.

5Great Unit!Jun 21, 2006
By Kristen
I teach 5th grade and I used this for the first time last fall. The stories are great and many of the activities are cute. Some are a little silly so I supplemented with graphic organizers, etc. I really like the overall concept and the folders enable the kids to keep all their info together.

Like I said, the only thing I wasn't crazy about was some of the activities. The kids, though, had fun with the pocket format.
